AI knowledge assistants: Answers from your own documents, with the source attached

Policies, procedures, contracts, product documentation, past projects: the knowledge is there, but nobody can find it. A retrieval-augmented assistant answers in plain language from your content only, cites where the answer came from, and hands off to a person when the evidence is missing.

Sound familiar?

The problems we hear

Organizations with large document sets: professional services, legal, finance, healthcare administration, public sector.

  • Staff ask the same questions in chat because the answer is buried in a PDF.
  • New hires take months to learn where things are.
  • Consumer chat tools cannot see your documents, and should not.
  • Answers without sources cannot be trusted in regulated work.

How we approach it

What we do about it

  1. 01

    Retrieval first

Your documents indexed with vector and keyword search, with permissions respected so people only see what they are allowed to.

  2. 02

    Grounded answers

The model answers from retrieved passages, cites them, and refuses when the evidence is not there. The pattern behind Case Polaris and NeuraCap's Financial Assistant.

  3. 03

    Data under your control

Hosted in your cloud account or in Canada, with the option of private or regional models for sensitive content.

  4. 04

    Evaluation and feedback

A test set of real questions, measured before launch, and feedback buttons that feed improvement.

Tools and technology we typically use

  • OpenSearch or Elasticsearch
  • Embedding models and rerankers
  • Anthropic, OpenAI or open-weight models behind one router
  • Access control and audit logging
  • AWS Canada (Central) hosting

We are not resellers. We recommend the option that fits your needs and data constraints.

Questions

About ai knowledge assistants

Can the assistant make things up?

Any language model can. Ours is constrained to retrieved passages, must cite them, and is instructed to say it does not know. We measure that on your questions before launch and sample answers in production.

Can it respect permissions?

Yes. Retrieval is filtered by the user's permissions, so the assistant only sees what the person asking is allowed to see.
